Galatians 2:11-21

Even mature believers can drift back into the trap of trying to earn God’s approval.

Introduction:
Our relationship with God is not built on performance but on Christ’s finished work.
Still, the Gospel of grace must shape how we live, not just what we say. Even great
leaders have the potential to fail, but by staying true to the Gospel, we avoid leading
others astray with our actions.
Starting Out:
How much do you consider what others think about you when you make
decisions?
Following up:
Did you have a more urgent mindset about reaching your oikos this week?
Galatians 2-11-21:
1. Who is Cephas, and why does Paul care about his eating habits?
2. Why did Jewish people avoid eating with Gentiles? HINT: See Leviticus 7:26-27.
3. Do you think that Paul’s public confrontation with Cephas (Peter) was
appropriate?
4. Why was Peter so concerned with what the other Jewish leaders would think,
and what was the result of his hypocrisy? (v.13)
5. How does division among believers threaten the message of the Gospel?
6. What is the point Paul is trying to make with this story? (v.21)
Taking It Home:
7. Is there a “Paul” in your life that is holding you accountable?
8. Is there another believer you’re having a disagreement/conflict with? How can
both of you use this as an opportunity for growth instead of causing division?
9. Standing up for the Gospel can be a lonely position. Are there any relationships
in your life where you’re “going along just to get along”?
Emphasis on Oikos:
10. Don’t make spreading the Gospel harder than it is. It’s as simple as sharing what
God has done for your life with those God has placed in your life. Are you actively
doing that?
