Colossians 3:12-17
Our new life of in Christ calls for us to love and forgive others
the same way that He has loved and forgiven us.
Introduction:
As we continue our journey through Colossians chapter 3, Paul gives instruction on
how our new life in Christ should guide our relationships with those around us.
Starting Out:
Have you ever witnessed how someone’s act of forgiveness, or their unwillingness
to forgive someone can affect a relationship?
Colossians 3:12-17
1. In verse 12, Paul calls the readers of this letter “holy and beloved”. Do you
consider yourself “holy and beloved”?
2. Having compassion, showing kindness, being humble, meek, and patient. Which
of these “new clothes” are the hardest to put on? Which is the easiest?
3. What does it look like to forgive others the way God has forgiven us? (v. 13)
4. How does love “bind everything together” and why is it “above all these”? (v. 14)
5. How does Christians living in harmony as “one body” (v. 15) bring glory to God?
HINT: See John 17:20-21
6. Paul seems to imply in verse 16 that singing psalms, songs, and hymns is equally
important as teaching and admonishing one another? Do you agree with this?
7. What is your favorite worship song, and why is it your favorite?
8. There’s a theme of thankfulness in these verses, what are you most grateful for?
9. What does it look like to “do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus”? (v.17)
Taking It Home:
10. Is there someone in your life that you need to forgive the way that Christ has
forgiven you?
11. Are you truly letting “the word of Christ dwell in you richly?
12. What is one practical way you can take off the old self and put on the new self
this week?
Emphasis on Oikos:
13. How can modeling Christ’s love and forgiveness to those around us help point
them to Christ?
