Proverbs 16:32 & Proverbs 25:28
If left unchecked, our desires can lead
us down the path of making regretful decisions.
Introduction:
Living wisely means surrendering your impulses to God; having a long-range view
that prioritizes your eternal relationship with Him instead of just doing what feels
good in the moment.
Starting Out:
Are you an impulsive spender, or do you thoroughly research every buying
decision?
Following up:
Did you notice anyone new to add to your Oikos this week?
Proverbs 16:32:
1. What immediately captures your attention about this verse?
2. What do you think it means to be “slow to anger”?
3. Why do you think Solomon claims impulse control is better than being mighty?
4. What does it meant to “rule your spirit”?
Proverbs 25:28:
5. Why do you think self-control is so important to Solomon?
6. How is a lack of self-control like a ransacked city?
7. What do you think is the significance of being “left without walls”?
8. Why do many people, including Christians, tend to look at “walls” (rules,
safeguards, etc.) as negative things?
Taking It Home:
9. How effective are you at controlling your emotions and impulses?
10. Have your walls of defense collapsed?
11. What can you do to maintain or strengthen your walls of protection?
12. How can we help each other choose self-control over self-indulgence?
Emphasis on Oikos:
13. Remember, we don’t choose our Oikos, God does. Are there people in your life
you’ve avoided praying for or sharing the Gospel with?
