Proverbs 4:20-27
Your life is shaped by what you allow into your heart.
Introduction:
Living wisely means intentionally guarding what you allow into your heart;
protecting it from bad ideas and sinful influences that could lead you somewhere
you were never meant to go.
Starting Out:
Do you own a family heirloom that has been passed down to you? Why is this
important for your family, and how would you describe its value?
Following up:
Did you allow God to change your perspective on anyone in your Oikos this week?
Proverbs 4:20-27:
1. Is there anything in this passage you find hard to understand?
2. Who is the “son” in verse 20?
3. Where are we to store our wisdom? (v.21)
4. How can wise words provide “life” and “healing”? (v.22)
5. What do you think it means to “keep” your heart? (v.23)
6. Applying God’s wisdom to our daily walk means doing what with our mouth…
(v.24) our eyes… (v.25), and our feet… (v.26)?
Taking It Home:
7. What external influences are you allowing into your heart that could lead you
astray?
8. What are some practical ways we can vigilantly guard our hearts from sin?
9. Are there any areas of your life that you need to seek wise counsel about?
10. Are you actively passing on the wisdom that God has allowed you to acquire to
those around you?
Emphasis on Oikos:
11. God does not deal in randomness. If someone new has entered your sphere of
influence, they are there for a reason. Have you noticed anyone new showing up
in your life?
