Isaiah 10:33-11:11

Isaiah 10 gives a picture of a forest full of tree stumps made by God cutting the lofty down low (33-34), and as chapter 11 begins, we see Israel (the stump of Jesse) has also been cut down to a stump. It’s a sad state of affairs, but this stump would make a spectacular comeback. God’s desire is for all the nations of the world to be part of the Kingdom of the Messiah. The root of Jesse is a banner to the world to turn to the Lord and find rest in His glory.

Read Isaiah 10:33-11:11:
  1. How do verses 2-5 describe the character of the “shoot of Jesse”?
  2. Why would these character traits be important in regards to the reign of the Davidic King?
  3. Which of these character traits stand out to you the most in your relationship with Jesus right now?
  4. In verses 6-9, which picture is most difficult for you to imagine?
  5. How does verse 9 inform you of the reason for this radically new earth, where destructive forces are gone?
  6. How might it impact the way you live this week to know that your final home is reveling in the glory of King Jesus?
